As a shinnying, sometimes slothful tree-man, I see problems with nearly every species of tree locally. It seems that EVERY species I climb (or otherwise work with) - with the notable exceptions of Ginkgo Biloba and Dawn Redwood (Metasequoia glyptostroboides) - is sickly, stricken, or ravaged with pests. Coincidence?

I'm glad Reelife Productions documented your presentation! It's hard to make it to all the great events in the area--now I still get all the valuable information that you seem to be so full of! Thanks for sharing Dan!

Yes, I think many people don't understand that the general warming of the planet can cause many types of changes in weather pattern. They tend to think within a very small sphere; the one that exists only directly around them.

Back in December, the NYT published an excellent article explaining the cold winter/warming climate phenomenon in plain English:
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/12/26/opinion/26cohen.html
May it help the bamboozled see beyond the shiny, distracting objects!

Thank you, Shel. It was fun (I heard Fela great, too - I was sorry I had to miss that one!).

Yeah, it's hard to keep up with everything. Even the stuff that I get to look at has features and wrinkles and opportunities I'll never get to learn about without living with them as intimately as we do with FB, Twitter, etc.

I'll check out Sokule and Tobri - thanks for the tip!

Thanks for sharing this, Daniel. I was disappointed that I couldn't be there in person (and couldn't be at Fela either, because the roads were not good around here that night). I think of myself as fairly knowledgeable on social media, but you listed several networks I wasn't familiar with at all.

I'd be curious to know your opinion of Sokule and Tobri (for -profit Twitter wannabees).

Thanks for commenting, Shalini! Always glad to hear from you.

You're right - I listen to music rather than podcasts when I'm cooking: I get too much pleasure out of cooking to divide my attention that way. (Washing dishes, OTOH - definitely!)

Again, I mostly listen to podcasts when I'm in the car or doing errands - I'd rather read, too. People who know me well know that I believe that life is mostly a bunch of stuff you have to do in order to get some time to read.

You are absolutely right about the need for summaries and transcripts where possible. There's another reason beside convenience to do it: just as Google can't see pictures, it can't listen to podcasts or watch videos, either. You need the transcript to get the SEO benefit of your hard work.
