iPhone
I bought an iPhone. I’ve been playing with it much of this rainy afternoon.
I have been a pda user (palm platform) for many years, and on my last job, I had a windows mobile phone from my employer, which I learned to use pretty intensively. We used Exchange at the company and the phone did a great job of syncing both over the wireless networks and with my desktop machine. I became addicted to OneNote, and became a much more expert user of Outlook 2007 as a result of having the mobile device.
I was reduced to a nice LG Shine feature phone and a nice but ancient Sony Clie (syncing to Outlook) when I got laid off in the spring.
I’ve been researching the various mobile options, and would probably have gone for an Android phone, except that our connectivity is marginal up in the hills and my tenants told me their T-Mobile phones did not work well here.
So I got an iPhone. First impressions: nice design, useful but imperfect. First of all, it’s slow. Connectivity for the 3G network is kinda spotty up here, although today is very wet and cloudy, which always negatively impacts cell phone use here.
It will be nice to have mobile versions of some of my favorite applications, like Gmail, Google Calendar, Evernote, and Toodledo. Wish I had better connectivity at home, though. I’ve been thinking about putting a Wireless Access Point in the barn where we live, and that might solve all my connectivity problems in this building.
The iPhone sure is pretty, though. I’ve never owned an Apple product before; the aesthetics are mighty nice – not sure the value is there, though, which is the rap we have always put on Apple coming from the PC world. (No, I don’t want to start an argument with Mac users, please!)
I’ll be writing lots more about my experience with this device as I get further along with integrating it into my personal workflow.

Hello. I was reading someone elses blog and saw you on their blogroll. Would you be interested in exchanging blog roll links? If so, feel free to email me.
Thanks.
Can you tell me who did your layout? I’ve been looking for one kind of like yours. Thank you.
I’m using a wordpress skin called ‘elegant grunge’, which seemed kinda suitable.
Noah has an iPhone and it seems to do everything but make successful phone calls. And he’s in NYC where you’d think the network wouldn’t be a problem.
I’m surprised he’s having network problems in NYC. I hear AT&T is having pretty major problems because their estimates of iPhone bandwidth requirements were way low, though. The phone works very well for me, and the speed is not as bad as I feared at first. I’m still putting in a Wireless Access Point or two in the barn.
The phone does play ***really*** nice with the GPS in the car over Bluetooth.
